SCI Launches Hunter Information Service As New Member Benefit

This year Safari Club International is introducing the Hunter Information Service, a new benefit available to SCI’s 50,000-plus members. The service provides SCI members with an online library and real-time helpline for information on all things related to hunting, hunting travel and sustainable use conservation.

“We are very excited to offer this new benefit to our members,” said SCI President Paul Babaz. “SCI is the preeminent hunting and conservation association and advocacy group, and it makes sense for us to provide a resource that puts all the crucial information on hunting at our members’ fingertips. This service makes SCI membership even more valuable to hunters everywhere.”

Once live, the Hunter Information Service library will be accessible through SCI’s website http://www.safariclub.org. In the Hunter Information Service, members can research hunting opportunities, destinations and species, requirements to travel with firearms, trophy importation regulations, airline restrictions, disease outbreaks in wild game and more. A searchable database of hunt reports submitted by SCI members will be added to the service in 2019. An online directory of exhibitors and sponsors of SCI’s annual convention also will be featured as part of the Hunter Information Service, giving members direct year-round access to exhibitors.

Another exciting feature is the Hunter Information Hotline that will be a component that allows SCI members to call or email a knowledgeable representative with questions about hunting travel, trophy importations, hunting opportunities, updates on legal challenges to hunting, help with hunting-related problems and other issues.

While the service will be available only to SCI members, there will be some sections of the online library available to everyone. Those sections will offer fact sheets, studies and reports on sustainable use conservation and how the practice contributes to saving species around the world and the habitat they depend upon.

SCI contracted Barbara Crown, former Editor-in-Chief of The Hunting Report Newsletter, to create and manage the Hunter Information Service. She will man the new hotline and provide SCI members with up-to-date information, assistance and advice. Crown has 20 years of experience investigating and reporting on hunting-related news developments around the world, and managing the hunt report program at The Hunting Report.

“Barbara is a perfect fit for the SCI Hunter Information Service, and we are happy to have her,” said SCI CEO Rick Parsons.

“I am ecstatic to be working with SCI to provide members with the information and help they need to enjoy hunts of a lifetime, navigate the challenges that arise and resolve any problems that may develop,” said Crown. “I consider it an honor and a calling to serve the hunting community, fight for sustainable use and help educate the general public on conservation issues.”
