New this Convention, the SCIF Veterans Committee is auctioning a sponsorship for a combat veteran to go on a 400- to 420-point bull elk hunt. The winning bidder of the auction will be paying to send Cody Scriver, a nine-year Marine veteran who has participated in more than 100 combat missions in Afghanistan, on a Colorado trophy elk hunt. The winning bidder will be able to accompany Scriver as a guest on the veteran’s hunt. Both Scriver and the sponsor can invite up to five other guests to receive two nights lodging and meals at Trophy Mountain Ranch, an estate hunting operation located near Cowdrey, Colorado.
The auction will take place 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2018 at the annual SCIF Veterans Breakfast and auction. Money from this auction item will be earmarked to pay for Scriver’s hunting expenses and, depending on amount raised, also put toward paying for meat processing, traveling to and from the hunt and other incidental hunting expenses. The sponsor will be responsible for his or her own hunting, travel and guest expenses, separately.
Veterans Committee is a group of dedicated SCI volunteers who devote their time and expertise to helping honor and support veterans. This Committee is responsible for planning the SCIF Veterans Breakfast held annually during the SCI Convention. The funds raised during the breakfast are earmarked exclusively for Veterans Committee programs. Committee members also visit the Walter Reed Hospital during the SCI May Board meeting in appreciation of the service and sacrifice the military servicemen and women have made for their country.
Another activity Committee members participate in is the Wreath Laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington National Cemetery. In addition, individual committee members are active in their local Chapters and carry out various outdoor programs that are open to veterans and their families. Many activities focus on taking veterans hunting and fishing. If you would like to support this effort, please attend the annual Veterans Breakfast.
