A court ordered closure of a small area of the Sonoran Desert National Monument to recreational shooting will not affect hunters according to a press release from the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
The Bureau of Land Management, acting on an order by the US District Court in Arizona has closed roughly 10,600 acres of the nearly 500,000 acres of the monument to recreational shooting as of Sept. 15, while environmental impacts of shooting in the area are being analyzed. The Arizona Game and Fish Dept. assure hunters that in accordance with state regulations, this closure will not affect licensed hunting.
A 60-day public scoping period and four public meetings are planned and scheduling is pending. Comments and/or recommendations can be submitted in writing to the BLM via email at: BLM_AZ_SDNMtargetshooting@BLM.gov
