This seminar is designed to provide Chapters with an overview of the legal parameters for Chapter operations, including what is required to maintain a Chapter as a tax-exempt organization; powers and duties of officers and directors; tort liabilities of members, agents, officers and directors; indemnification; prohibition on excess benefit/self-dealing transactions and the consequences of EBT’s and self-dealing; intellectual property issues; the Chapter’s filing requirements with both the IRS and SCI headquarters. We will also be discussing necessary disclosures and notices for a tax-exempt organization; legal requirements of fundraising, auctions, raffles and more.
You will be provided practical tips on maintaining your books, records and Chapter insurance. You will also learn what use can be made of your logo and name, what funds can be raised for a Section 501(c)(3) that cannot for a Section 501(c)(4), and how the two can work together.
